There's only few brands or places out there that simply matches their name and output perfectly.
Sky Garden fits that description quite pretty well. The 'ladyboss' and I planned to visit this new place dubbed as 'London's highest public garden' to see if their claim is right.
It is located at 20 Fenchurch Street, or the building locally known as the 'Walkie-Talkie.' The public's reception to the 5th tallest building in London have been as cold as the weather due to its peculiar strange look. But for me, beauty comes in all forms, shapes and sizes!
Having it seen directly from my workplace's break room window almost daily, had my curiosity shooting up. That led me to finding out about its 'sky garden.'
I love the views from extreme heights while enjoying the serenity of the cityscape. I have been up in the London Eye, and that was extremely limited in time and definitely not cheap. My next go-to option to try was at The Shard, but that too is quite pricey for almost £30 per head. After finding out that Sky Garden is indeed for the public for FREE, debate's over. I'm sold.
Visiting the Sky Garden must be booked ahead, as they try to limit perhaps due to safety reasons. It is open 7 days a week, with further details on their website here. Aside from the garden, it has a bar & grill restaurant, a bar and a brasserie.
Canary Wharf from a distance
The famous Tower Bridge
We were booked for a 2 PM time slot, and we wished to stay for the whole day if only we could. Getting off the quick lift at the 35th floor, it feels more like an airport terminal due to an enclosed glass dome with a panoramic view of central London. It was astounding. I felt like home to due its flora and fauna on the inside, the impressive and architecture within, and the breath-taking views of the city. It would've looked more incredible to see the city lights at night time.
Solar panels!
Finally using Samsung S4's panorama mode.

Rarely do you see the Gherkin being stunted.
My model for the day
Three storeys worth of fantastic views.
Next time we will try to have some food and drinks at the bar and restaurant. We had some that day at the Borough Market which is a good 10 minute walk away from the building, which I will feature in the next post.
In the end, we had a priceless time taking in all the views from all over central London, plus the newly placed plants in the garden themselves are beautiful on their own. If only more city buildings have this concept, we can make a concrete jungle a bit more livelier and liveable again.
Did I say it was worth 0.00£ to get in?
you can only book within the month, right? Wala pang April dates eh *sigh* will definitely visit the place! :D
ReplyDeleteBefore apparently they're allowing advance bookings for months. hopefully they get it sorted out soon. Will wait for your skygarden experience! ;)
