WHY IT’S COOL TO BE A GEEK REASON #102: GLASSES

*Disclosure: This is a sponsored post that contains affiliate links.

I’ve struggled with bad eyesight for years.

I used to laugh at my schoolmates that wear eyeglasses and tease them with their poor vision especially at the school playgrounds. 'Four-eyes' were never appealing then. The stigma with eyeglass-wearers were either geeks or nerds. (This is the 90's era by the way.)

Then I slowly became one of 'them!'

I first noticed changes in my vision when I was in junior to senior high school.  It got worse when I started university. I just find myself trying to move in front to of the class trying to take notes from the professor’s lecture.

I blame this mainly on my cramming technique. Whenever there’s an exam day, I try to cram my reading and studying on the early hours of that same day, and then read whilst on the public transport en route to school further straining my eyes. [Can’t say if that 'cramming' technique were ever successful and the sacrifice were all worth it, but I guess I passed some of those exams! ]

Eyewear and fashion don't always see eye to eye, but nowadays I could really see it happening!
[I did enjoy the overkill of puns there, sorry. ;) ]

Eyewear specialists such as Specspost show that glasses can be fun and fashionable aside from being very functional. They specialise from fashion geek glasses to prescription sunglasses. I did have a hard time choosing three frames to try from their awesome collection, but I ended up picking these:

Man of Steel Glasses
AOK RayBan Wayfarer Style Glasses

Johnny Depp Glasses

So, I let my friends from Instagram, Facebook and Twitter vote and decide!

After a tough deliberation and consideration of everyone's kind words and votes (true friends you all are!), I decided to go with the AOK glasses! Well, I guess the name does sound right with regards to the decision then. :)

So if you are not too sure on your eyewear, whether for fashion or for prescription, have your eyes checked and taken care of. And if you want to get some great deals and swift order and delivery from the comforts of your bed, then Specspost will show you the way.

If I told my teenager self that wearing glasses will be cool and fashionable, well dammit I'd run away from my future 'Four-eyed' self!

    1. That's so true and annoying with rainy weather. Wishing someone invents glasses with wipers!

(actually might get a Johnny myself. They're all good!)

  2. I'm geek and proud, yet I don't wear glasses. I don't think you have to call yourself a geek just because you do. I define myself as a geek because I participate in hobbies such as live role playing. However, I have a cousin who wears glasses and he is far removed as possible from anything geeky or nerdy.

    1. Can't agree any more with you Louise! As I mentioned, such glasses are equated into fashion nowadays and have the 'geek-look' label. In which doesn't constitute one already is. I consider myself to be 'geek' such as becoming 'extremely excited or enthusiastic about a subject, typically one of specialist or minority interest', i.e. comic books, history, museums. No, I'm not the geekiest of all, but like you, everyone must be proud and it is cool! :)
