So you’ve traveled all other and been to various landmarks and attractions in a variety of different countries. Struggling to think of new things to see on your trips? Well, here are some ridiculously cool natural phenomena. How about booking a trip to try and witness one of these bad boys!
The Northern Lights
The Northern Lights are one of the easiest natural phenomenon to spot. You can catch them in relatively easy places to travel to. The only difficulty might be knowing when to see the Aurora Borelais. But the best time to try and catch them is through the winter. Obviously, you will only be able to witness the lights in the dark. So expect to stay up a long time watching the night skies! You won’t be getting much sleep on this trip!
Christmas Island’s Red Crabs
The Australian territory of Christmas Island has some amazing scenery. It is sure to make unbeatable holiday pictures. But there is also something else that makes this small island super cool. Its red crabs! At the beginning of the island’s wet season in November, the crabs begin to migrate to the ocean to lay their eggs. But it’s not just a few crabs that do this – forty-three million take the journey! There are so many of them that the island’s authorities have to close the roads for a week.
Underwater Crop Circles
If you ever go diving off the coast of Japan, you might be lucky enough to spot some underwater crop circles. For years, scientists weren’t sure what was causing these mysterious circles. But, finally, in 2011 they found the culprit creating them! They are actually made by male puffer fish in an attempt to woo the females of the species. The fish can spend over a week working on their circles to ensure it will attract a mate.
Lenticular Clouds
The best place to head to spot a lenticular cloud is Mount Olympus in Greece. These stationary clouds look like perfect circles. They are often spotted above the mountain and give it a fabulous, biblical look. In fact, some people have even mistaken them for UFOs because of their shape!
Bioluminescent Waves
These only occur on one particular beach on Vaadhoo Island in the Maldives. There is a large population of bioluminescent plankton living in the waters around the beach. Once they are washed to shore, they can be easily seen as their chemical energy turns into light energy which illuminates the shoreline.
Moskstraumen
The Moskstraumen are a system of tides and whirlpools just off the coast of Norway. They make up one of the largest whirlpools on earth. Many historical accounts have detailed this whirlpool. Including Edgar Allan Poe who wrote about it in his popular short story, ‘A Descent into the Maelström.’
Our planet is full of unique natural wonders that can really add to any vacation! So why stick to the beach when you can go exploring to discover some of the above awe-inspiring phenomena?!
