Guys Worry About Getting Old Too!

There’s a common misconception in society that guys don’t worry about getting old. Or, more importantly, looking old. After all, if the male celebrities can age gracefully, why can’t your typical, average man? Well, lots of reasons. Firstly, the dating age has expanded recently, and reports have revealed that people are deciding to settle down far later in life. People will forgive you losing your looks once you're married.

But if you’re on the dating circuit and you’re starting to look worse for wear, then you’ve got issues. Of course, the problems that guys worry about aren’t necessarily the ones that affect girls. Let’s run down some of the biggest fears guys have about the way they look.

Losing Your Hair

Here’s a fun way to spend a Saturday. If you think you might be losing your hair, no matter what age, there are easy ways to find out. The first thing that you’ll need to check is your hairline. Make sure that it hasn’t changed in any way. Do be careful that you don’t mistake things for changes that have always been there. For instance, some guys have a widow's peak which is basically a little tuft of hair in the middle of the hairline.

Don’t worry, this will be the first thing to vanish if your hair starts to recede. Then, you can use a back mirror to check the back of your head for any bald spots. Again, some guys have natural partings that look like bald spots on the crown of their head. Unless you think it’s getting bigger, you don’t need to worry about this. Finally, you can check your parting and see whether it’s bigger than it should be. A hair parting should only be a few millimetres in width. All clear? If not there are a few options you can consider.

You can get a wig. Believe it or not, there are plenty of celebs who have opted for this choice. Ben Affleck is famous for wearing a wig in every movie he has been from 1998. Meanwhile, Sean Connery wore a wig every time he played James Bond. The best wigs that look like the real deal are expensive and can be as much as a few thousand.

You can rock the natural look and follow in the footsteps of Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. If you have the confidence, bald can be quite distinguishing. Particularly if you have a body that takes the attention away from the top of your head.

Alternatively, you may want to try one of the may drug treatments on the market. Finasteride 1mg tablets taken for six months will repair your hair follicles, causing your hair to look thicker. The treatment, while expensive, have proven to be quite effective for a lot of people.

Going Grey

We’re still thinking about hair and this time it’s changing colour. You could be going prematurely grey. Be aware that anything before forty could be considered premature. Although again, there are plenty of celebs that look great with grey hair including George Clooney. Grey’s Anatomy heartthrobs Eric Dane, and Patrick Dempsey were both known for their grey hair. Although, they both seem to have had dye jobs now.

Obviously, this is the only solution to going grey. You can dye it back to the natural colour. Be aware though that dying does damage the hair so you could end up losing it. Then, you'll need to consider one of the other treatments we mentioned.

Dad Bod

I don’t think most people realise that dad bod is just a guy doing his best to hold his stomach in. Yes, it looks more or less firm and well built, but you just wait until they breathe out. People with dad bod are going through the infamous middle age spread. There’s no easy way to get around it either. Although you might be surprised that for many people, this isn’t a weight problem. Instead, it’s an issue with posture.

If you have poor posture, it pushes your stomach out and gives you the big pot belly. You might not even weigh any more than you previously did. Therefore, if you want to avoid this common sign of age, correct your posture. Do your best to stand up straight, and if you’re doing it right, this will hurt. It will hurt until your body gets used to it again. When you do, though, you might be surprised by just how fit you actually are.

I hope I’ve helped some guys out who were worried about these common signs of age.
