The Golden Rules Of Wedding Wear For Guys

Unless you are the groom, choosing the right outfit for a wedding can be difficult. Let’s face it – no one wants to stand out for the wrong reasons. But, you do want to stand out in some form. It’s a tricky line to tow, and one that lots of male guests struggle with every year. Because it’s wedding season, here at The GZT, we thought we would impart some wisdom to make your life easier. With that in mind, below are the golden rules of wedding wear for the guys that just don’t know what outfit to don.

Go Traditional

Even though it seems like the perfect environment, a wedding isn’t a place to experiment. For one thing, there are potentially hundreds of people that you don’t know who are going to judge. Plus, it isn’t your day, and you aren’t the centre of attention. So, instead of something weird and wacky, stick to a traditional number. If a suit comes across as boring, think of ways to spruce it up a bit. For example, mixing and matching the colour of the tie and shirt combo is a simple and elegant touch.

And Go To A Pro

Suits are available almost everywhere on the high street, and they are a lot cheaper, too. However, the style is never the same unless you go to an expert. A tailor knows how to make the suit fit just right and accentuate your best features. Plus, they can also provide advice which will stand you in good stead should you have any doubts. The service is dearer, yet it is well worth the money when the final product arrives. After all, a suit is all about the fit, so an off the rack number won’t always work.

But Don’t Rent

Rentals are great for those last minute suits and tuxedos that save the day. If this scenario happens, then head to a rental shop by all means. However, if you have six months to piece one together, don’t rent a suit. The reason is simple: you should wear something you enjoy. Rentals fill a gap, but that is all. A suit you purchase from a tailor which is tailored made is a lot more fun. And, it looks the part, too. Come on – have you ever heard someone say ‘you look amazing’ to a guy in a rental tux? The answer is no, no you haven’t!

Accessorise

The smallest things can elevate a suit to another level. They are accessories, and they are a powerful weapon. However, you have to use them properly and in conjunction with the ethos of the event. Consider a tie for a moment. There are lots of different styles, from work ones to everyday wear. But, they aren’t appropriate for a wedding as you need to wear something more formal. What is appropriate? Well, there is nothing wrong with a tie bar and pocket square combination.

Also, don’t forget to put on a nice watch for when the clothes inevitably come off on the dance floor.
