Why West is Best in Australia

Even though Western Australia covers a third of the country’s area, it is still overlooked by many travellers who come on a whistlestop tour of the country’s other coast and its more well-known attractions. But visitors who travel to this part of the country will be rewarded with a combination of bustling cities and towns, incredible national parks, unusual plants and wildlife and, of course, plenty of white sandy beaches. So, here’s a quick rundown of some of the top places to visit in this part of the world.

Perth

One of the fastest-growing cities in Australia, Perth sits on the Indian Ocean and fans of the beach life and watersports won’t be disappointed. But there is a lot more to this city than just the coastline. The Perth Cultural Centre features a whole host of museums, galleries and shopping opportunities, while the Kings Park and Botanic Garden is home to hundreds of native plants. From the city, you can rent a car through Burswood Car Rentals to explore the surrounding area. There is certainly a lot of ground to cover!

Margaret River

A busy holiday resort that attracts weekend trippers from Perth, Margaret River is also a surfing hotspot. But even if you are not into riding the waves, there is still plenty to see here. As well as the white beaches, you will find towering timber forests and incredible limestone caves to explore. And for people who want to get their hearts beating a little faster, you can enjoy mountain biking, kayaking, and rock climbing.

Esperance Bay and Cape Le Grand National Park

Western Australia is all about the great outdoors and one of the best places to experience it in all its glory is Esperance Bay. Within this region, Cape Le Grand National Park vies for the title of Australia’s whitest beach and we all know that it faces some pretty stiff competition! Many people have the pleasure of spotting kangaroos enjoying the weather, while you can also take part in some snorkelling to experience the underwater life. Beyond this, there is the Great Ocean Drive where you can experience some incredible coastal scenery.

Broome and Kimberley

A visit to the Kimberley region should not be missed out on if you are in Western Australia, and the tourist town of Broome is a great starting point. Cable Beach is one of the town’s top sights and is backed by stand-out red cliffs which contrast brilliantly with the turquoise waters. One of the top experiences here is a camel ride at sunset. If you are here at the right time of year, the Staircase to the Moon can be seen which is a dazzling optical illusion. Beyond Broome, you can enjoy a whole host of Kimberley’s top attractions which include the Horizontal Waterfall and Bungle Bungle National Park.

This guide provides you with a brief overview of some of the top sights in Western Australia, but there is plenty more to enjoy for all who visit. For more ideas, why not check out 100 best Things to Do in Australia to get you pumped up for down under!
