It’s Worth Learning Some Basic Spanish

Lots of English-speaking people assume that they can go to any major city and there will be a lot of people that can speak English. This is not so much the case in Madrid. Compared to other European capitals, the number of people who can speak English is actually pretty low. So, it’s a good idea to learn some basic Spanish ahead of your visit. If you pick up a phrasebook, you should be able to get by just fine.

There are Plenty of Museums and Galleries to Visit

There are so many great museums and galleries in Madrid. Its art and culture make it one of the best cities to visit for art-lovers. From Museo del Prado to Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, there is so much to do and see. You should do some research into the options and plan out which of them you want to go to while you’re there. You probably won’t have time to visit all of them because there’s just so many.

Plan Around the Siesta

It’s vital to remember that the working day is different in Spain than it is in the rest of the world. People take a siesta in the afternoon, and that’s why shops can shut down for a short while. Small shops probably won’t be open between 2 and 5 in the afternoon, so don’t plan any trips to the shop at that time because you’ll end up disappointed. It’s easy to forget about this if you have never been to a Spanish city before.

Madrid is one of Europe’s food capitals, so head to the authentic restaurants where the locals eat. That’s where you’ll find the very best food. Of course, paella is a must, but there are many other Spanish dishes to try out as well.

If you keep all of these things in mind and act accordingly when you head to Madrid, you will have a great time there.
